Troubles Continue for the Chesapeake Volunteer Fire Department

Kanawha County commissioners said they entered an emergency order Tuesday directing two other fire departments in the county to handle all fire and first responder calls for the Chesapeake Volunteer Fire Department until further notice. The commission said it approved the emergency order after a request from the West Virginia Fire Marshal’s Office. Kanawha County Commission President Kent Carper said the Chesapeake VFD failed to meet the minimal requirements from the state Fire Marshal’s Office. WCHS TV reported the department lost its workers’ compensation protection for its members because of non-payment. In June 2020, the Chesapeake VFD also was shut down for a time because of a number of deficiencies.
