Vaccine Age is Lowered to 50

West Virginia’s coronavirus vaccination program will move to lower the overall age of those receiving vaccinations to ages 50 and over. Gov. Jim Justice said Wednesday that the state will continue to prioritize those who are 65 years and older who still have not received their shots. School service personnel ages 50 and over have already been eligible for and have been receiving vaccinations, and officials will now circle back and give vaccinations to those school service personnel between the ages of 40 and 50.

And, vaccinations also will be administered to high-risk population with chronic medical conditions who are ages 16 and above. The conditions for people in this group include those with Down’s Syndrome, intellectual and developmental disabilities and their caretakers, caretakers of those with congenital or acquired disease, organ or bone marrow transplant, obesity (with a body mass index of 35), sickle cell anemia, cystic fibrosis and pregnancy.
