Inmate’s Death is Under Investigation

The West Virginia Department of Homeland Security confirms an inmate died Monday at the South Central Regional Jail. 39-year old James Miller was found unresponsive in his bunk about 5:30 a.m. Monday. Lawrence Messina, communications director for the Department of Homeland Security said staff immediately provided medical assistance and EMS arrived within minutes. Miller was pronounced dead about 6 a.m. The cause of his death is unknown.
Messina said Miller was known to be alive within about an hour of staff finding him unresponsive. The incident remains under investigation.
