Court records indicate that a man now wanted for the first-degree murder of a Charleston teenager had a misdemeanor gun charge dropped in magistrate court last year. On Wednesday, Charleston police announced that 19-year old Dekotis Thomas of South Charleston was being sought on the murder warrant for the April 7 shooting death of Kelvin “KJ” Taylor. Police said Thomas possessed a gun in a traffic stop in 2019, and that’s prohibited for anyone under the age of 21. The charge was eventually dropped.
