New Traffic Signals Should Help Route 119

Busy Route 119 in Charleston is getting some new stop lights this summer. West Virginia Department of Transportation workers said it will help make traffic move faster. The project began in August 2020 to change traffic patterns coming out of Oakwood Rd. Canfield said drivers will be able to make safer turns because of it, and WCHS TV reported it’s supposed to help alleviate the traffic that backs up on Oakwood Road from the schools. The new traffic signals could also help cut down on common car accidents as well. Works still needs to be done to widen and lengthen the new turning lanes, and new guardrails need to be put up. The project is expected to be completed by August or sooner, weather permitting.
