Police Officers Get Training on Working With Dementia Patients

There are nearly 40,000 West Virginians living with Alzheimer’s Disease and that number is expected to climb even higher over the next few years. Dementia remains a growing safety threat and WCHS TV reported six out of 10 people with Alzheimer’s or dementia will wander. The West Virginia Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association has been reaching out to first responders around the state offering free dementia-oriented training. St. Albans became West Virginia’s first dementia-friendly city in 2020. It is also the first city in the state to complete the dementia training.
