A Popular Scam is Back Targeting Seniors

West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey is warning the public of scams aimed at senior citizens. Scammers are calling senior citizens pretending to be their grandchildren, and some claim to be law enforcement with news about grandkids in another state in need of money because of an emergency. Morrisey advises asking the caller something only the real grandchild would know, such as a nickname, pet’s name or where they attended school. And never give out bank routing numbers or credit card numbers to anyone that you don’t know over the phone. Anyone who thinks he or she has been a victim of a scam like these should contact the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division at 1-800-368-8808.
