It has nothing to do with COVID this time. The city of Nitro’s public pool didn’t open as planned on Memorial Day due to a lack of lifeguards. The city made the announcement on social media Monday and asked for referrals if you know someone at least 15 years old who wants to be a lifeguard. An official opening date for the pool was not announced. Other public pools that opened over the weekend include Waves of Fun in Hurricane, Little Creek Pool in South Charleston and the Coonskin Park Pool in Kanawha County. Charleston city officials said there’s no timeline yet for when the city’s pools will open, but the city is advertising staffing positions.
