Concerns Grow Over Lyme Disease Cases

Monongalia County health officials say they are seeing two to four new cases daily of Lyme disease. Symptoms include low grade fever, fatigue ad joint pain. The Monongalia County Health Department said it’s seeing new cases every day of the tick-borne illness. Lyme disease is usually caused by the bite of a blacklegged deer tick. The health department says West Virginia is one of 15 states listed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as having a high incidence of Lyme disease. In Monongalia County, there are 17 confirmed cases with 26 potential cases that still need to be evaluated. Insect repellents that DEET can help prevent it.
