State Police Officer Dies at His Home

A member of the West Virginia State Police died last Saturday while working at home in Fayette County. 52-year old Sgt. John Syner was commander of the State Police detachment in Marlinton, and died while working on his property, according to a statement from a West Virginia State Police spokesperson. Syner was known to be involved in local schools, nonprofits and little leagues when not on duty. In 2019, he was awarded the Superintendent’s Award, one of the highest honors a state trooper can receive.
