Cabell County School System Has Big Demand for Substitute Teachers

Several counties throughout the region have already had to close schools or the entire district and not just for quarantines but for staffing issues. On Wednesday alone, Cabell County had about 200 call-ins, all requesting substitute teachers, bus operators, secretaries, custodians and aides. It has 300 active substitute teachers and this year, and WCHS TV reported the district is hiring 12 more substitutes and interviewing 50 applicants over the next few days. They’re also relying on nearby Marshall University to help with the substitute shortage and eventually help fill open positions.
