Well-Known Charleston Artist Leaves a Legacy

The Charleston arts community is mourning the loss of an artist whose innovative, creative works brightened the area. Charles Jupiter Hamilton has passed away, according to a Facebook post Tuesday from the Clay Center, and his work still stands in the Juliet Art Museum. The Clay Center said that Hamilton’s sculptures, wall reliefs and prints “are memorable and thought provoking. Organizers of FestivALL, Charleston’s arts festival, and Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin also expressed sadness about the loss of Hamilton.
