Flags at Half Staff Honor Fallen Firefighters

Governors in West Virginia and Kentucky ordered flags on state property to be flown at half-staff over the weekend in honor of fallen firefighters who died in the past year. West Virginia honored James Ward of the Logan Fire Department; Mark Horwich of the Clover Roane Volunteer Fire Department; Zachary Blankenship of the Montcalm Volunteer Fire Department; Russell Roberson Jr. of the Iaeger Volunteer Fire Department; and firefighter Logan Young of the West Virginia Air National Guard. Gov. Jim Justice’s proclamation also calls for residents be part of ceremonies to remember the fallen firefighters. The proclamation also officially recognizes Fire Prevention Week in West Virginia, which begins Sunday and runs through Oct. 9.
