Huntington City Council to Consider a New Deputy Chief Position

Huntington Mayor Steve Williams has announced a plan that would create a deputy chief position within the city’s police department. If approved by city council, Lt. Phil Watkins would serve in the new role, according to a news release from the mayor’s office. Watkins was one of two finalists to be the city’s new police chief. Karl Colder, a retired member of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Drug Enforcement Administration with 32 years of experience, was chosen to be Huntington’s new police chief earlier this week. The proposal to create the position is scheduled to go before city council as the first reading of an ordinance during its meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 8.
