The West Virginia State Tax Department plans to formally investigate what led to an employee overtaxing a Kanawha County coal mining company more than 800-thousand-dollars. The tax department asked Kanawha County Commissioners to exonerate BlackHawk Mining of the business personal property obligation because of what attorneys called a department error. The Commission says BlackHawk missed the deadline to contest the taxes, and wants more information before making a decisioun.
