St. Albans Police Chief Moves to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office

Longtime law enforcement officer Joe Crawford will take the reins as chief deputy of the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office. Crawford currently serves as police chief at the St. Albans Police Department, and will take over the number two position in the office under Sheriff Mike Rutherford on Dec. 1. His last day in St. Albans will be Nov. 30. Current Chief Deputy Gregory Young is retiring after 32 years of service to the sheriff’s office, including 15 of those as chief of detectives. Young will become a civilian worker as the new director of Budget and Planning. Crawford started his law enforcement career at the Dunbar Police Department almost 36 years ago, and has been chief of police twice at St. Albans, also serving as chief in Eleanor in Putnam County and at Yeager Airport.
