Lawmakers Consider Creating a Veterinary School

Lawmakers met this week to cover several topics, and one of those was the possibility of creating the state’s first veterinary school. Proponents cite an increase in needs while several emergency clinics have shut down because they cannot find veterinarians to work for them after hours. Some short-term options were presented to lawmakers, including debt relief for new veterinarians that move to West Virginia and exanding tuition assistance. If lawmakers move forward when they meet next year, it could be another several years before a veterinary school opens.
