Man is Arrested After a Wrong-Way Chase

One man was arrested after a pursuit in Kanawha County early Monday
According to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s office, 45-year-old Larry George Hamrick was arrested following a 45 minute chase. The incident started when a deputy tried to conduct a traffic stop on Piedmont Road near Charleston, but the vehicle sped away. During the chase, Hamrick almost hit a cruiser head-on, drove the wrong way on I-77, and destroyed two parking lot gates at CAMC Cancer Center. Later in the pursuit the car crossed the Kanawha River going the wrong direction on the 36th Street Bridge, and eventually crashed on MacCorkle Avenue in Marmet. According to deputies, Hamrick showed signs of intoxication and admitted to snorting methamphetamine about two hours earlier. His driver’s license was suspended for 45 unpaid citations, among other reasons. He is being charged with two felonies and several misdemeanors. Hamrick was taken to the hospital before being arraigned.
