Murder Suspect in the Cassie Johnson Case Requests to Have His Trial Moved

Wednesday marked the one year anniversary that Charleston Patrolman Cassie Johnson was shot in the line of duty. Joshua Phillips is the man accused of killing Johnson as she was responding to a parking complaint on Garrison Avenue. Johnson died in the hospital two days after the shooting and Phillips was wounded in the incident. He appeared in court for a pre-trial hearing yesterday and asked to have his trial moved out of Kanawha County.
Defense attorneys have also filed a motion to dismiss two counts of the indictment against Phillips. Judge Jennifer Bailey said she would keep the trial date of Jan. 10 for now. Both sides will be back in court on Dec. 17 at 2:00 p.m. for another status hearing.
