New River Gorge Fire Could Have Been Worse

A wildfire that started November 29 ripped through the New River Gorge and impacted more than 132 acres before it was extinguished. Char marks and damage from the fire can be seen along the Nuttallburg Trail. Officials from Park Services have been surveying the land and WCHS TV reported the early signs show the damage could have been a lot worse. Dozens of firefighters from the National Park Service and forest service battled the blaze along with crews from surrounding states, including Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia and more. They’re credited with getting the fire under control quickly so the situation wasn’t worse. The National Park Service still does not know what caused the fire.
