State lawmakers learned this week that the RISE West Virginia program is under federal investigation. State Sen. Stephen Baldwin represents Greenbrier County – one of the hardest hit areas by the 2016 floods – and said he just learned about the investigation during a joint committee meeting held Monday. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is analyzing some possible duplication of benefits and a concern over some properties not meeting requirements to be rebuilt using program dollars. RISE West Virginia program officials said they have completed 90% of housing projects as of November 2021.
