Three Colleges Will Launch Comprehensive Nursing Programs

Gov. Jim Justice announced that $48 million of the remaining CARES Act money will be pumped into efforts to train more nurses in West Virginia to help with the hospital staffing shortages that have been worsened by the pandemic. The governor said an aggressive program to train nurses will be established at Concord University, Glenville State College and BridgeValley Community and Technical College along with the state’s existing nursing training programs. The governor cited figures from last year that showed 1,700 nurses in West Virginia didn’t renew their licenses and 68% of those said they didn’t do so because they were worn out and had been pushed beyond their limits.
