Vote of No Confidence is Scheduled for Monday for WVU President

West Virginia University’s Faculty Senate is scheduled to hold a vote of no confidence in president E. Gordon Gee and provost Maryanne Reed. Faculty senate members cited reasons such as the lack of a campus COVID-19 vaccine mandate, anti-inclusive systematic hiring practices and lack of a transparency. The resolution alleges Gee and Reed ignored votes by a faculty assembly, the university’s student body and a formal vote by the WVU Student Government Association that all called for a vaccine mandate. The vote is expected to be held during the next faculty senate meeting scheduled for 3:15 p.m. on Monday. If passed, the vote would be a formal declaration of no confidence. The West Virginia University Board of Governors though determines who is the school’s president. Gee has served as the university’s president since 2014.
