Sheriff’s Office Warns of a Scam

The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public to be on the lookout for a jury duty scam. A teacher in Kanawha County was contacted and told she had failed to appear for jury duty and a warrant would be issued for her arrest unless she paid a fine over the phone, according to a post on the sheriff’s office Facebook page. The teacher checked with the courts and found out it was a scam. The sheriff’s office said Kanawha County officials will never ask for payment of fines by phone. Taxes and other fee can sometime be paid on official websites, or by phone.
