City Outlines Plans for American Rescue Plan Funds

The city of Charleston has drafted recommendations for $36.8 million in American Rescue Plan funding to be reviewed by city council. The American Rescue Plan Advisory Committee met Wednesday and finalized their recommendations. The money from ARP would fund city projects such as infrastructure and tourism along with helping community groups, and 32 have applied so far.

WCHS TV said West Virginia Health Right is recommended to receive $1.5 million to help expand its East End clinic along with construction to a location on the West Side. Manna Meal had two applications approved, totaling more than $1 million for a food truck. A large portion of the ARP dollars would go towards city projects. Infrastructure and broadband upgrades like streetlights, paving, and bridge maintenance would get $7.5 million. Another $6 million would pay for turf athletic fields and facility upgrades. Currently. the city is leaving $5 million on the table in case something comes up, or for a potential second round of community applications. A resolution introducing the recommendations will occur on Feb. 22. The final vote by city council is scheduled for March 7, dependent on approval from the finance committee.
