Nearly 15 tons of trash were collected in a spring cleanup event last Saturday in Charleston in the East End, downtown and Bigley Avenue areas. About 135 volunteers from local businesses, organizations and the city participated in the effort, according to Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin, who said there are upcoming clean ups in Kanawha City, North Charleston, the West Side and South Hills. The next cleanup event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 9 at the Kanawha City Community Center (3511 Venable Ave.) T-shirts, litter pickers, bags, gloves, other cleanup materials, snacks, lunch and water will be provided.
