Law enforcement has issued warnings about a phone scam in Kanawha County.
Scammers are identifying as Sgt. Jason Kole of the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office and then advising victims they have an active arrest warrant issued by Judge Akers for missing jury duty. Callers follow up the bogus claims by attempting to extract information from their victims in order to steal money. Scammers have been using the fake phone number 304-306-9068, according to a news release from the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office. The news release advises residents hang up and avoid giving out any personal information over the phone.
