Grants are Available to Develop Land Mine Sites

Applications are now available for millions of dollars in federal funding to help develop closed or abandoned mine sites in West Virginia. The DEP is accepting applications for a portion of $35 million in grant funding through June 20, 2022. The funding is provided through the Abandoned Mine Lands Economic Revitalization Program for projects located on or adjacent to mine sites that ceased operations prior to the signing of the Surface Mine Control and Reclamation Act on Aug. 3, 1977. The 2022 grant application, application tips and guidelines are available on the WVDEP’s website.
