West Virginia Natural Resources Police are reminding hunters about safety and some of the common violations police see as turkey season opens in the state on Monday, April 18. Police said hunters should be sure of what is beyond their target before shooting a gobbler, and they should never shoot at just a sound. Anyone who has information on suspected poaching activity is asked to contact Natural Resources Police or call 911 for crimes in progress. The most common violations Natural Resources Police see during turkey hunting seasons include hunting over bait, hunting without a license, having a loaded gun in a vehicle, and hunting without permission. Police said the reward for information leading to arrest and conviction for a person found guilty of illegally killing a turkey is $200.
