COVID Booster for Kids 5 to 11 Proves Effective

A third COVID-19 vaccine dose is in the works for children aged 5 to 11. Pfizer requested emergency authorization from the FDA last week. CAMC pediatric specialist Dr. Neil Copeland told WCHS TV that data shows a booster for young kids does work. “Children that received a booster shot six months after their second Pfizer dose had a 36-times higher levels of antibodies that would protect against the omicron variant,” according to Copeland. In West Virginia, just 15% of kids aged 5 to 11 have gotten vaccinated. Copeland said if the booster shot gets approved, parents and families should talk to their healthcare providers before making a decision.
