Charleston Soccer Tournaments Have Significant Economic Impact

Two big soccer tournaments at the Shawnee Sports Complex are bringing thousands of people and millions of dollars to Kanawha County and the surrounding areas. The U.S. Youth Soccer Eastern Presidents Cup was held over the weekend with almost 2,000 athletes playing. Kanawha County Commissioner Ben Salango expects an $8 million-dollar economic boost with up to 5,000 visitors at hotels and restaurants. Part of the ournament is being played in Barboursville. Another tournament this week will be even bigger as Salango says they are expecting 15,000 visitors and a $24 million-dollar economic impact. WCHS TV checked with several hotels in the Kanawha Valley and most are all booked up.
