An 18-year-old has been indicted in Kanawha County in the shooting deaths of four members of an Elkview family. Gavin Blaine Smith of Elkview was indicted last week by a Kanawha County grand jury for murder. He was arrested shortly after his mother, stepfather and two younger brothers were found dead inside their home in December 2020 on Cemetery Hill Drive. In March, Judge Kenneth Ballard moved the case against Smith from juvenile to adult status. The judge ruled in May that he would be transferred from a juvenile facility to the South Central Regional Jail.
