Jurors on Monday heard opening statements in the Kanawha County murder trial of Joshua Phillips, who is charged with murder in the death of Charleston police officer Cassie Johnson. The jury has been hearing testimony from several witnesses about how the incident on Garrison Avenue unfolded in December 2020 and emotional video was played in court that showed the shooting scene. The trial is continuing today.
