Nicholas County Sheriff William Nunley said he’s grateful for the area’s support of his officers and their families after two deputies lost their lives within the past month. Nicholas County Deputy Tom Baker was killed in the line of duty during a shootout on June 3. A few weeks before that, the sheriff’s office lost Nicholas County Deputy Travis Lawson, who was killed in an off-duty motorcycle crash. That happened on May 10. In a public letter of appreciation, Sheriff Nunley also said the community’s support has brought honor and respect to the memory of two fine public servants.
