Sheriff’s Deputies Seek Driver of a Stolen Truck

Kanawha County deputies said they were continuing to search Tuesday afternoon for the driver of a stolen truck who fled from officers at high rate of speed while throwing items from the vehicle. A deputy had checked the license plate of the vehicle and learned the plate and possibly the truck were stolen. Sgt. Ana Pile, spokesperson for the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, said the truck pulled into the Marathon station in Cabin Creek/Chelyan, and two deputies pulled behind the vehicle. Pile said the driver was pumping gas into the truck, but he got into the truck and took off after seeing the deputies. Speeds reached up to 70 mph as the truck fled onto Cabin Creek Road. Pile said the driver threw items, including paper, clothes and tools from the vehicle in an apparent attempt to distract deputies. The truck ended up on a pipe line road, where it came to stop, and the driver fled on foot. A K-9 attempted to track the suspect but was unsuccessful. The truck was recovered, and the vehicle had been reported as stolen.
