State Board Says There is Room for Improvement in Education

About 72% of West Virginia public school students do not meet the standard or partially meet the standard in science, while 67% do not meet the standard or partially meet the standard in mathematics and 58% do not meet those marks in reading. The state assessment results of student performance for spring 2022 were approved Wednesday by the state Board of Education. The board said while there were highlights with slight increases in proficiencies the results “are evidence that significant work remains to increase student proficiency overall.”
