Nucor says its costs to build the Mason County plant are rising

The cost of Nucor Corporation’s sheet mill factory in Mason County is increasing. The company said the cost of the steel mill has increased from $2.7 billion to $3.1 billion. Company attributed the rising costs to general inflation, the acquisition of additional property and equipment and expanded port and rail infrastructure requirements. The company said it has received all of its required state permits and is now working to secure federal permits this spring. Nucor will employ 800 people once it’s fullly operational. Construction on the mill is expected to take two to three years to complete once permits are approved.
