School lawsuit bill is tabled for now

A bill that would cap the amount of money someone can get from an abuse lawsuit against a school system in West Virginia was tabled by the state Senate Judiciary Committee this week after questions surfaced about schools’ liability insurance.
Senators decided to shelve the bill for now after hearing from the West Virginia Board of Risk and Insurance Management. The bill would reduce the amount of money awarded in a school abuse lawsuit claim by a quarter of a million dollars – from more than $1.2 million to $1 million. There are more questions than answers at this point, and more review is necessary.
