Crews continue cleaning up the old St. Albans Jr. High building

St. Albans city officials said a contractor working with the state Department of Environmental Protection removed 26 tons of tires from the St. Albans Junior High School building as part of the demolition project. City officials said this week, now that the tires have been removed, work will shift to asbestos testing. The results are typically available in several weeks. Abatement work can begin once the testing results are completed. The building has been vacant for more than 20 years. St. Albans Mayor Scott James said the building demolition has been one of the key initiatives during his current administration. Eyewitness News reported there are no definitive plans for the property, but they said cleaning it up is one of the steps into helping the city get rid of blighted areas.
