Kanawha County Schools offer an update on plans for Cedar Grove Elementary

An additional $2 million has been approved to cover costs for the demolition and renovation of Cedar Grove Elementary School. The School Building Authority approved the additional funding after Kanawha County Schools said estimates for the project came in higher than expected. The total cost of the project is now expected to be about $18.7 million. The project at Cedar Grove calls for the renovation of more than 37,000 square feet of the facility and construction of nearly 7,000 square feet of new space, according to Kanawha County Schools.
The rest of the building, which was built in 1954, will be demolished. Demolition is expected to begin in mid March and renovations are expected to start in early May.
