West Virginia State University expands its nursing program

An area university aims to address the ongoing nursing shortage. According to Trusted Health, in 2020 there were more than 34,000 nurses in West Virginia. This year, there are a little over 22,000. Eyewitness News said West Virginia State University’s nursing program has seen a drop in student enrollment, but through Gov. Jim Justice’s Nursing Workforce Expansion Program, they hope that reverses the trend. West Virginia State University received $1 million for improving classroom spaces and attracting more students. The university added simulators, which teach students how to deal with high blood pressure, respiratory problems and maternity issues. There’s more about the nursing program on the WVSU website.
