Public Service Commission considers a new rate increase request from WV American Water

West Virginia American Water filed a rate increase proposal with the Public Service Commission that would cause the average water bill to go up about $15 per month and the average sewer bill $19 per month. Eyewitness News sat down with West Virginia American Water President Rob Burton who said this rate increase is a reflection of the $340 million dollars of investments made from 2020 to now and future investments to 2025. He said this includes repairs, new systems, combining systems and now updating the treatment plant in Charleston with new EPA regulations. This comes after a rate increase that went into effect in 2022 that brought rates up about 8%. West Virginia American Water files for an increase about every two years. The West Virginia Public Service Commission has scheduled four public comment hearings and are expected to make a decision regarding rate adjustments by early September.
