An arrest has been made after a decomposing body was found inside a Kanawha County home. Investigators said a Belle man found hiding inside the home had been claiming Social Security benefits that belonged to his mother. Michael Johnson has been charged with obtaining money by false pretenses, according to jail records. The body was found inside a home in the 400 block of Fifth Street, and investigators said it was badly decomposed. Detectives said Johnson is the son of the tenant that was to be served an eviction notice and he was taken into custody after he was found hiding in a closet. Johnson told deputies he had been living with his mother for about two to three years and she had died at the home in December 2022.
