A West Virginia man pleaded guilty this week to fraudulently accepting more than half a million dollars in pandemic relief funds. 52-year old James Nolte pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of West Virginia. Nolte applied for Paycheck Protection Program funding for businesses he reportedly owned by falsely representing wages, staff and tax returns. As a result, he received more than $645,000 in funding. Prosecutors said Nolte faces up to 20 years in prison. He will be sentenced at a later date.
