A former city employee in Clarksburg was sentenced after pleading guilty to embezzling nearly $100,000. A news release from the State Auditor’s Office said Suzette Wagner was sentenced to 1-10 years in home confinement and ordered to pay $85-thousand in restitution. She was also ordered to reimburse the state auditor’s office for nearly $40,000 spent investigating the cases. Wagner worked for the city for 28 before retiring in 2019 as the chief tax and fee collector. She told investigators she would adjust accounts to cover the money she was stealing and used the money to pay bills.
