Two inmates have been charged in another inmate’s death at Southern Regional Jail in 2022. Lucas Wagner and Isaiah McBride were charged with homicide by an inmate and intrusion by an inmate in connection with the Oct. 29, 2022, death of Douglas Cunningham. Raleigh County court records show the two men are accused of dumping Cunningham, who was in a wheelchair at the time, on the floor, and abusing him and beating him. The official autopsy report said Cunningham’s death was a homicide due to the stress of his injuries.
