Kennedy to receive mental evaluation before trial

A mental evaluation has been ordered for the man accused of killing a West Virginia State Police trooper in Mingo County. Doctors will look at Timothy Kennedy’s competency and criminal responsibility in connection with the death of Sgt. Cory Maynard. Kennedy is accused of shooting and killing Maynard while the trooper was looking for him in connection with a separate shooting that wounded another man. He is charged with murder in the trooper’s death. A bond hearing had been set for today, but that’s hold pending the outcome of the psychiatric report.
