The state will take over Upshur County Schools

The West Virginia Board of Education voted Wednesday to take over the Upshur County school system after discovering misspent federal funds. A monitoring report showed the county’s noncompliance with ESSER spending on several fronts, including no-bid contracts, ineligible entertainment purchases, room rentals and employee reimbursements adding up to more than $131,000. West Virginia State Police will secure the Upshur County Schools Central Office until the state Department of Education can take over the facility.
