Harsher penalties for distracted driving

Something to keep in mind as you hit the road this holiday weekend, West Virginia’s distracted driving laws have been updated and include harsher penalties. The Robin Ames Memorial Act outlaws cell phone use and includes other devices like tablets. The law also includes steeper fines and jail time if you hurt or kill someone while driving distracted. Causing death while distracted is now considered negligent homicide. Injuring someone is a misdemeanor with a penalty of up to 120 days in jail, a fine of up to one-thousand-dollars or both.
