Kanawha County Schools prepare to adapt to new law requiring microphones in some areas of schools

This week the Kanawha County Board of Education discussed a new law requiring microphones be purchased and placed in bathrooms for special needs students.
The microphones are meant to protect students by providing an extra layer of surveillance in an area that would go otherwise unmonitored. Parents can opt their children out of being recorded. The microphones are now required as part of legislation passed by West Virginia lawmakers in March months after a Holz Elementary School special needs teacher was convicted of ten counts of battery on three students.
